In Mallorca, from June to September, the heat and humidity put anything you store at home to the test. Cannabis flowers are no exception: heat causes them to lose their aroma, and humidity can spoil them. Here are the key tips for storing them properly during the summer.<\/p>\n
Terpenes \u2013 the compounds that give each strain its smell and flavour \u2013 are volatile. From around 25 \u00b0C, they start to evaporate more quickly, and in a house near the sea in August, it\u2019s easy to exceed that temperature. The result is a flower that smells less and tastes more flat.<\/p>\n
Ideally, you should store it in the coolest part of the house, away from windows, electrical appliances and the boot of the car, which turns into an oven in summer.<\/p>\n
The Mediterranean air is humid, particularly at night. Excess humidity inside the pot encourages the growth of mould; a lack of it dries out the flower and makes it brittle. The range usually recommended is between 55 % and 62 % relative humidity.<\/p>\n
Two-way humidity control sachets help to maintain that level without you having to keep an eye on it. They are placed inside the container and absorb or release moisture as required.<\/p>\n
Ultraviolet light breaks down cannabinoids and terpenes. A clear glass jar on a sunny shelf is the worst possible combination. Use opaque or amber glass containers, or store them in a cupboard.<\/p>\n
Cool, dark, airtight and with controlled humidity. If you meet these four conditions, the aroma will be preserved much better, even in the middle of August.<\/p>\n
